Built in 1952 at Wolverton under lot 2465 to Dia 1/208, BR 12 ton Standard Ventilated van B762118 is seen here at Peterborough ( N.V. ) burnt out. Whilst it looks a state it does allow an insight into the construction of the chassis and body.Fitted with 3 piece ends, spindle buffers and morton 4 shoe 'push' brakes. It was originally vacuum brake fitted, but this has been removed at some point.

BR built toDia 1/805 under lot 30383 in the carriage book at Swindon in 1958/59 W92096W is numbered in the BR 4 wheel parcels stock range. here it has been retro painted as one of it's earlier GWR cousins. This vehicle would have had a short life in general useage, but survived by being used in the Departmental services as an 'ENPARTS' van on circuits eminanting from Swindon works to the Major WR diesel depots in the 70's and 80's before withdrawl.

Another Dia 1/208 BR standard 12 ton ventilated van is depicted here by B763162, built at Wolverton in 1954 to lot 2595. Again it has a 3 piece end with spindle buffer and a full complement of Morton 4 shoe push vacuum brake fitment. Last used by the S&T Department at Godley, It's number was prefixed by KD to show that it was in S&T Deparmental service. the old TOPS code of 'VVV' is still visable at the left hand end of the bodyside.

BR 12 ton BANANA van, B881987 is from the last lot of BR vans built for this traffic. Built in 1959 at Wolverton to Dia 1/246 under lot 3209, it is NOT fitted with steam heating to help rippen the bananas ! Mounted onto a 10' WB, vacuum fitted, 8 shoe clasp brake chassis with OLEO buffers. These vans were 'XP' rated and therefore due to their possible inclusion on passenger trains, were also fitted with screw link couplings.

B484199 is the last in a batch of 50 12 ton 'PIPEFIT' wagons built to BR diagram 1/462 in 1957 as Wolvertons lot 3070. Fitted with 4 shoe 'push' brakes and spindle buffers this diagram was rated 1 ton less than the standard BR 'pipes'.

B741574 is a Std 12t Pipe wagon, built at Wolverton in 1956 under lot 2846 to Dia 1/462. Seen here with typical markings this preserved example has come by way of the Departmental fleet and has been fitted with a through air pipe, which has been inccorectly painted red instead of white on this example. It would have been coded ZDW in departmental use and may have been either painted in the SATLINK livery of Red & Yellow or the PROJECT MERCURY livery of Light Blue. Rch long link 4 shoe push brakes and spindle buffers fitted from new.

A 1949 BR built GWR design of 12 'VANFIT' from the Swindon stable. Constructed under lot 2079 to Dia 1/203 it shows the classic GWR features of twin vents and high level Vacuum barke stantion, with a 'sawtooth' ratchet barke lever instead of a pin secured one. Vacuum fitted with RCH 4 shoe push Brakes and GWR style spindle buffers, This van only seems to be missing the 'chalk board' from just above the number from the day that it was built.

BR standard 12 ton ventilated van with 2 part end and plywood contruction to Dia 1/213, lot 3023 from Ashford in 1957. Fitted with 4 shoe 'push' brakes and OLEO buffers.

Built in 1958 at Wolverton to Dia 1/208 under lot 3228 B 778436 is a Plywood 12T van fitted with Br 8 shoe clasp vacuum brakes.

BR 12T Ventilaited Van, B781542, is seen here at Ferry Meadows on the N.V.R. Built in 1958 by Chas Roberts, it is to lot 3164 on Dia 1/208. The van is on a 8 shoe 'clasp' brake chassis and fitted with 'self-contained' buffers. The body is of planked construction fitted with plywood doors and is Labeled up as a 'VANFIT'.

a non standard BR 12T Std van ! B786393 was built by Pressed Steel in 1961 to Dia 1/224 under lot 3398. Fitted with Oleo buffers from new, this van is one of 40 vehicles that BR decided to fit twin pipe air brakes and UIC double link susspension to in 1970. Trialed on test trains between Oxford and Worcester between 1970 and 1972, this and the other vehicles are the ancestors of the air braked BR fleet on the network today and could be said to be the grandparents of the air braked 'VANWIDES' & 'PIPES' that were rebuilt with FAT 19 suspension in the late 1970's becoming TOPS codes VEA and ODA.

B786467 is a Dia 1/224 BR 12t ventilated van of plywood construstion with a 2 piece end. Built in 1962 by Pressed Steel to lot 3398 it is fitted with 8 shoe 'clasp' brakes, 1 piece axleboxes and OLEO buffers. An ex departmental van the TOPS code ZDV is still visable along with the number which the EKR have thoughtfully painted round !!

Dia 1/208 12 ton standard van built to Lot 3086 at Wolverton in 1958. This is a planked body version and is fitted with self contained buffers, 2 piece axle boxes and 8 shoe 'clasp' barke gear. Again the people at the EKR have painted around the number and various original markings and have left the builders plate on the wagon to aid ID. there is a very faint trace of the Departmental TOPS code ZDV on the wagon.

Swindon built BR 13T 'CLAY OPEN' B743029 is from the first batch of wagons built solely by this works as replacements for the GWR designed and built wagons for this traffic. Constructed in 1954, under lot 2590 to Dia 1/051 consisiting of 100 wagons, it owes much to and shows a lot of Swindon's GWR heritage in its design and construction.Built with end doors, to allow tipping, as well as side doors the sheet support rail and blue PVC/Nylon load sheet were latter additions for this wagon. Tops coded OOV.

Built to lot 3153 under Dia 1/069 by Pressed Steel in 1958, B502824 is a BR 13T 'CONFLAT A'. This wagon , after finishing in revenue earning traffic, was placed into Departmental use and given the prefix CD to the number, CDB502824, before ending its days as an internal user numbered 025010. Shown here fitted with OLEO buffers and BR 8 shoe clasp brakes, it has two piece axle boxes and screw link couplings.

Here we see the oposite side of B502824, showing the asymetrical arrangement of the BR 8 Shoe 'clasp' Brake gear. This wagon would have recived the TOPS code FAV.
