200954 is from the same build as 200733, but retains a lot more of the original livery from it's CCE days, only really having had the TOPS code changed to RRA. Grove Park 19th February 2006. RRA110559 is from the same batch of wagons as 110532, and was allocated to the Transrail freight company upon the pre-privitisation of the railfreight sectors. seen here in the rain at Grove Park, the red buffer beams and grey curb rail give the game away. 19th February 2006 110532 was originally an OBA 31t open built to lot 3930 at Shildon 1978, Converted to a runner wagon by the removal of floor ends and sides and a new open meas floor and curb rail side added it is now an RRA to diagram RR046Awith a new all up weight of 12t, It is carring EWS maroon livery. Newport 21st April 2006. 110670 is also from the same batch of OBA's as 110532 and also is carring EWS maroon livery, seen here at the end of a short miked rake of BDA/BEA's at Magor on the 25th July 2006. 200733 was originally a 1976 built VDA to diagram VD001A under lot 3855. It was later converted to a ZEA 'BREAM' runner wagon for use by the CCE department to design code ZE001A and ballasted up to a total weight of 16t by the use of old rail in the centre of the wagon floor. the number gained a DC prefix. EWS have returned all wagons to a common user pool and re-coded them all RRA. 200733 is still carring the all over yellow livery from it's CCE days and has large blackout patches where the prefix, fishkind and old TOPS code were. Newport 25th July 2006 110788 is still in very faded freight Brown livery and is seen here at Newport Station, 25th July 2006.

Built by BR 1949/1950 to LMS Dia 2068. This 20 ton brake van ended it's days in Departmental use as DM731687, with a TOPS code of ZTO. Meaning a traffic brake van with no automatic brakes, only the handbrake. BR standard 12 ton ventilated van with 2 part end and plywood contruction to Dia 1/213, lot 3023 from Ashford in 1957. Fitted with 4 shoe 'push' brakes and OLEO buffers. B786467 is a Dia 1/224 BR 12t ventilated van of plywood construstion with a 2 piece end. Built in 1962 by Pressed Steel to lot 3398 it is fitted with 8 shoe 'clasp' brakes, 1 piece axleboxes and OLEO buffers. An ex departmental van the TOPS code ZDV is still visable along with the number which the EKR have thoughtfully painted round !! Dia 1/208 12 ton standard van built to Lot 3086 at Wolverton in 1958. This is a planked body version and is fitted with self contained buffers, 2 piece axle boxes and 8 shoe 'clasp' barke gear. Again the people at the EKR have painted around the number and various original markings and have left the builders plate on the wagon to aid ID. there is a very faint trace of the Departmental TOPS code ZDV on the wagon. B484199 is the last in a batch of 50 12 ton 'PIPEFIT' wagons built to BR diagram 1/462 in 1957 as Wolvertons lot 3070. Fitted with 4 shoe 'push' brakes and spindle buffers this diagram was rated 1 ton less than the standard BR 'pipes'. Built, once again, in 1959 by Metropolitan - Cammell this time to lot 2822. ZFV 'DOGFISH' Ballast hopper DB 993256 is mainly in all over 'Rust' Livery. However it does display a badly faded Transrail 'Big T' logo, denoting that it was once part of this frieght operators fleet after the sell off of the frieght operation to the private sector in the 1990's. Of course it then became the property of EWS when they bought all three frieght operators in the late 90's. DB992725 is a 24T 'DOGFISH' ballast hopper. A development over the 'Catfish' hoppers. These wagons could carry 5 tons more and had three discharge chutes at the bottom, operation is via the three geared wheels at the platform end, allowing for total coverage of the running line when it came to depositing new Ballast. Built to Dia 1/587 under lot 2819 by Charles - Roberts in 1959, these wagons were again delivered with vacuum brakes as standard. However this particular wagon has gained a through air pipe and therefore it has the TOPS code of ZFW, not ZFV. 'DOGFISH', ZFV, DB992908 was again built in 1959, but by Metropolitan - Cammell under lot 2820. Seen here at Chinnor Jnc on the Chinnor and Princes Risborough Rly, it is in faded/rusty 'Dutch' livery. Wrongly given the painted number B955142, this is infact BR Std 20T Barke van B955112! Built at Faverdale in 1961 to dia 1/507 it was fitted from new with a through vacuum pipe, Oleo buffers and roller bearing axles boxes. Later in its life it was also fitted with Through air pipes and would have been given the TOPS code CAR. The vehicle itself was only braked by the hand brake situated inside the van. 19T Ballast hopper, DB992568 is from the very first batch of 'CATFISH' wagons built. Supplied by Metropolitan - Cammell in 1953, it was constructed under lot 2682 to Dia 1/586. Deposition of Ballast was via the bottom chute, controlled from the paltform at the far end with a geared wheel. Shown here in it's original livery of black with yellow lettering, these hoppers have always been vacuum brake fitted and carried the rather chunky self contained buffers. BR Standard 20T 'SHARK' Ballast Plough brake van, DB993778, was built in 1954 by Birmingham Railway Carriage and Wagon to Dia 1/597 under lot 2657. Preserved here in it's original Engineers Department black livery, this van was unbraked save for the handbrake. Here we see the oposite side of B502824, showing the asymetrical arrangement of the BR 8 Shoe 'clasp' Brake gear. This wagon would have recived the TOPS code FAV. Built to lot 3153 under Dia 1/069 by Pressed Steel in 1958, B502824 is a BR 13T 'CONFLAT A'. This wagon , after finishing in revenue earning traffic, was placed into Departmental use and given the prefix CD to the number, CDB502824, before ending its days as an internal user numbered 025010. Shown here fitted with OLEO buffers and BR 8 shoe clasp brakes, it has two piece axle boxes and screw link couplings. Built by Pressed Steel in 1955 to Dia 1/271 under lot 2709, B885280 is a BR 20T grain hopper. The wagon retains it's original spindle buffers, But has at some time recived roller bearing axle boxes. Unfitted, as denoted by the grey livery. Having been re-bodied at least once in it's life time 21T coal hopper B418128 is seen heere displaying an odd 'pink' livery! The body on the chassis is similar to the original, the main differences being in the support gussets and bracing on the side. Built at Shildon in 1955 to Dia 1/146 under lot 2731, this wagon is again not fitted with any brakes except the handbrake. Of note are the two bottom door release handles just below the sole bar in the centre of the wagon. The nearest one is at a downwards angle, denoting that the door is open. Fitted with Spindle buffers and Instanter couplings with one piece axle boxes. B709313 is another BR 13t 'CONFLAT A' that was passed into Departmental use, gaining the prefix 'CD' to it's Number indicating that it was under the responsibility of BREL. Built to Dia 1/069 under lot 3083 in 1958 at Derby, this wagon would have been coded FAV under TOPS and shares the same details as B502824 from the previous photos. Of note is the large Box mounted on each side at sole bar level. these were for the storage of the load securing chains and originally had lids to cover the chains when not in used. Swindon built BR 13T 'CLAY OPEN' B743029 is from the first batch of wagons built solely by this works as replacements for the GWR designed and built wagons for this traffic. Constructed in 1954, under lot 2590 to Dia 1/051 consisiting of 100 wagons, it owes much to and shows a lot of Swindon's GWR heritage in its design and construction.Built with end doors, to allow tipping, as well as side doors the sheet support rail and blue PVC/Nylon load sheet were latter additions for this wagon. Tops coded OOV. B591830 is a 16t Mineral wagon built in 1957 at Derby under lot 2993 to Dia 1/117. The body is of welded constuction with end door and top flap above the side door, and has a pair of bottom doors denoted by the markings on the side door. Independant hand brakes either side and spidle buffers. It's Grey livery shows that it is an 'unfitted' without an automatic braking system. another view of W92096W. BR built toDia 1/805 under lot 30383 in the carriage book at Swindon in 1958/59 W92096W is numbered in the BR 4 wheel parcels stock range. here it has been retro painted as one of it's earlier GWR cousins. This vehicle would have had a short life in general useage, but survived by being used in the Departmental services as an 'ENPARTS' van on circuits eminanting from Swindon works to the Major WR diesel depots in the 70's and 80's before withdrawl. A 1949 BR built GWR design of 12 'VANFIT' from the Swindon stable. Constructed under lot 2079 to Dia 1/203 it shows the classic GWR features of twin vents and high level Vacuum barke stantion, with a 'sawtooth' ratchet barke lever instead of a pin secured one. Vacuum fitted with RCH 4 shoe push Brakes and GWR style spindle buffers, This van only seems to be missing the 'chalk board' from just above the number from the day that it was built. Built in 1958 at Wolverton to Dia 1/208 under lot 3228 B 778436 is a Plywood 12T van fitted with Br 8 shoe clasp vacuum brakes. B741574 is a Std 12t Pipe wagon, built at Wolverton in 1956 under lot 2846 to Dia 1/462. Seen here with typical markings this preserved example has come by way of the Departmental fleet and has been fitted with a through air pipe, which has been inccorectly painted red instead of white on this example. It would have been coded ZDW in departmental use and may have been either painted in the SATLINK livery of Red & Yellow or the PROJECT MERCURY livery of Light Blue. Rch long link 4 shoe push brakes and spindle buffers fitted from new. a non standard BR 12T Std van ! B786393 was built by Pressed Steel in 1961 to Dia 1/224 under lot 3398. Fitted with Oleo buffers from new, this van is one of 40 vehicles that BR decided to fit twin pipe air brakes and UIC double link susspension to in 1970. Trialed on test trains between Oxford and Worcester between 1970 and 1972, this and the other vehicles are the ancestors of the air braked BR fleet on the network today and could be said to be the grandparents of the air braked 'VANWIDES' & 'PIPES' that were rebuilt with FAT 19 suspension in the late 1970's becoming TOPS codes VEA and ODA. BR 12 ton BANANA van, B881987 is from the last lot of BR vans built for this traffic. Built in 1959 at Wolverton to Dia 1/246 under lot 3209, it is NOT fitted with steam heating to help rippen the bananas ! Mounted onto a 10' WB, vacuum fitted, 8 shoe clasp brake chassis with OLEO buffers. These vans were 'XP' rated and therefore due to their possible inclusion on passenger trains, were also fitted with screw link couplings. BR 12T Ventilaited Van, B781542, is seen here at Ferry Meadows on the N.V.R. Built in 1958 by Chas Roberts, it is to lot 3164 on Dia 1/208. The van is on a 8 shoe 'clasp' brake chassis and fitted with 'self-contained' buffers. The body is of planked construction fitted with plywood doors and is Labeled up as a 'VANFIT'. Built in 1952 at Wolverton under lot 2465 to Dia 1/208, BR 12 ton Standard Ventilated van B762118 is seen here at Peterborough ( N.V. ) burnt out. Whilst it looks a state it does allow an insight into the construction of the chassis and body.Fitted with 3 piece ends, spindle buffers and morton 4 shoe 'push' brakes. It was originally vacuum brake fitted, but this has been removed at some point. Not much of Faverdale built BR 20T Std Brake van B953944 left here!. Constructed to Dia 1/506 on lot 3129 in 1958, it was fitted with a through vacuum pipe and Oleo buffers. Not sure how they brake the wagon now as there is no mdified handbrake fitted to this, what is now really only a flat wagon!. The picture, does however, give an idea of the layout of the concrete slabs used to ballast these vehicles. Another Dia 1/208 BR standard 12 ton ventilated van is depicted here by B763162, built at Wolverton in 1954 to lot 2595. Again it has a 3 piece end with spindle buffer and a full complement of Morton 4 shoe push vacuum brake fitment. Last used by the S&T Department at Godley, It's number was prefixed by KD to show that it was in S&T Deparmental service. the old TOPS code of 'VVV' is still visable at the left hand end of the bodyside. This Vehicle is a bit difficult to ID. The Number that it is carring is the next one up from the last of the Dia 1/801 BR 'Blue Spot' fish vans. It is thought that this may actually be B87588, built by Faverdale in the late '50's to lot 30344 in the Carriage book. the vehicle is fitted with a 15' WB chassis and LNER derived 8 shoe 'clasp' brakes, Oleo Buffers and roller bearings. After fish traffic ceassed on BR 600 of these vehicles were refurbished and became 'Express Parcels' vans, with the TOPS code SPV. the last examples were left in newspaper traffic, with TOPS code NRV. Theses Vans kept thier Regional prefix before the number and were painted BR Blue livery. As an aside the remaining vehicles were placed into General freight use and painted Bauxite, as pictured, but prefixed with a B to denote wagons. many found later use with the various engineers departments and thus survived into preservation. Built in 1959 by Charles - Roberts on lot 2819 to Dia 1/587, This wagon has only ever had Vacuum brakes and although now painted over it was Coded under TOPS as ZFV. The livery is The engineers yellow/grey 'Dutch' shceme, so named as it resembled the Dutch State Railways livery at it's time of introduction.
